Your Client's Body Knows the Answer.

I saw a longtime client today who has a left shoulder issue.

Today, during our pre-session chat, she spoke from her body's perspective and knew she was onto something good. I could tell by the happy look on her face as she told me about her body awareness while outside doing yardwork—something that she and I have been working on—body awareness, or as I call it, listening to what her body is saying.

We do a body awareness exercise during each session, and I was proud to listen to and catch her wave of excitement as she told me about what her body said about her arm.

I took it in, basking in the knowledge that nurturing and giving clients time to become aware of their body messages during each bodywork massage/healing session just might make their lives that much easier to live.
Less struggle. More ease.
Less irritation. Greater flow.
Less unknown. Bigger trust.

Having a two-way street with your therapeutic client relationship opens the doors for your client to slow down and look at themselves as more than the physical.

You help them see themselves as physical beings with exceptional abilities, such as a sixth sense that can listen deeper and know things. You show them this not by lecture or self-care homework but by guiding them back to their body and bringing awareness to it.

Whenever my client spoke about her left shoulder, I'd say, "What does it want to say to you?" Or "Have you given it a color?"
Each time I did this, she was aware, and she could answer or not; it was always her choice.

Today was a big moment for B. She made a breakthrough in her listening, and I feel strongly that her journey has only begun.

Being with clients like B makes me want to share the endless possibilities of restoring clients to their bodies' internal wisdom. Instead of giving them the answers, you give them the recognition and awareness that they already have the answers.

Remember: your client's body knows; it's up to you to guide them and let them find out.
