Do You Really Need That?

Need Is a Four-Letter Word Sometimes, the best choice is to leave space—for breath, for peace, and for that thing you haven't even imagined yet.~unknown  I've been reflecting a lot on the subject of death. Not in a way that requires anyone's intervention. Instead, I've been thinking about how, when you pass away, you leave behind a multitude of physical belongings, including, but not limited to, photo albums, furniture, clothes, books, tools, diaries, money, and tons more.  And the people who are left behind are the ones who go through your stuff.  Then I started pondering about death, living in the present moment, and how that connects to when you die. If you were truly living in the now—meaning right now—what possessions would you be holding onto that, in the event of your death, would end up in someone else's hands, who then decides whether to keep, donate, or throw them away.  I ask you: do you really need that? Thinking about death has led me to re-evaluate eve...

The Details Don't Matter.

' The details don't matter.'  Says the woman on the podcast I'm currently listening to.  I'm confused as to what she means until she begins to explain.  'Don't let the small details of life get in the way of what really matters. Does it really matter if you get to the dry cleaner five minutes early? Or that you get to the grocery store on a certain day or time? And, does it really matter that the appointment you had set got cancelled?' The woman went on to say that by getting all caught up in those details, you keep wanting to control life with a white-knuckled grip, and that's no way to live your life.  I thought about her words as I drove, letting them sink in, and reflected on many times when I had gotten caught up in the details of little things in life, wanting to control them, rather than allowing the situation to unfold as it naturally was meant to. I thought about all the people involved in situations in my life where I flew off the handle ...

My Addiction To 10K Steps Per Day

A recent client of mine said to me , Well, shoot, that's an expensive way to track steps.  And my response (not out loud) to her was , M mmhmm. Totally worth it.   Recently, I made the decision to get an Apple Watch to track my steps, as I had developed the habit of aiming for 10,000 steps per day.  I'd bought a regular pedometer, a BellaBeat, and some other wristwatch tracker that, while all good, weren't exactly what I was looking for to track my steps accurately.  Enter the Apple Watch, a $500 purchase that essentially allows me to do one main thing (and other cool things): to track my steps precisely and accurately.   My addiction to 10K steps began in March of this year - a few short months ago, when I decided to join the local YMCA to get my body back into shape.  Initially, I took extra steps on the treadmill.  Then, I started taking  extra walks outside with my dogs.  Next, I began tracking the number of steps I took during my workday...

Overcome Procrastination

You've  all been there.  Procrastination is a challenge, and you struggle with: Making decisions.  Delaying, ignoring, or avoiding actions.  Taking the initiative or completing tasks.  Practicing proper time management. Procrastination can lead to and often results in daily burnout. It can negatively impact your self-talk, self-esteem, worth, emotions, and your state of mental health. Even short spurts of procrastination can leave you feeling overwhelmed, insecure, lacking motivation, and wanting to avoid everyone and everything around you; in short, you feel like crawling into a hole and never coming out.  Procrastinators can be energetically withdrawn from people, preferring to be by themselves, are time wasters and avoiders, often blaming others and themselves, and generally have a noncommittal attitude towards projects, goals, or anything long-term, usually feeling ' why bother? ' Procrastination rarely, if ever, leaves you in a better position . Read o...
